Forest, rural development and industries minister of Tripura Jitendra
Choudhury will lead a 10-member Indian delegation to Germany on
Wednesday for a weeklong visit. The team will get extensive exposure on
various eco-system services and successful conduct of livelihood based
on forests.
Before leaving for Germany, Choudhury said Tripura is recognized for its innovative concept of constituting Village Development Planning & Implementation Committees ( VDPIC) in 100 selected villages in the backward tribal-dominated areas of northern Tripura. The initiative is part of the Indo-German Development Co-operation project.
"This project aims to empower the villagers by giving them the choice to plan and implement activities for development of their respective villages. The head of a particular project directly transfers the funds to the person concerned in the village to carry out the development project. This is quite new and effective," Choudhury said.
The week-long trip, being sponsored by German Development Co-operation KfW, will include visits to Germany and UK so that the delegation gets a better understanding of the model of livelihood sustainability by value addition of the created resources beyond the project period.
Besides Choudhury, representatives from the ministry of finance, external affairs, development of northeast region, Indo-German co-operation mission and four officials would be in the team.
They also have planned to visit University of Cambridge in UK to hold a meeting with the department of geography and bio-diversity.
