#Update: 380 affected Tripura villagers of 4 villages in Taindong yet to return their homes;
Following communal tension and fearing attack of Bengalisettlers, on 3
August 2013, a total of 380 families of indigenous Tripuracommunity
including 59 families from Purabari village, 165 from Headman Para,140
from Laifu Kumar Karbari Para and 20 families from Krishna Doyal
KarbariPara under Taindong union of Matiranga upazila fled into the
neighbour Panchariupazila in Khagrachari district. These families took
shelter at PrafullaKarbari Para, Nabaratna Karbari Para, Moratila,
Rohindra Karbari Para and SubalKarbari Para under Latiban and Ultachari
union in Panchari upazila.
On 6 August 2013 a team of Tripura
Kalyan Sangsad (TKS) ledby its president Suresh Mohan Tripura, general
secretary Apurba Tripura andorganising secretary Bibesur Tripura visited
to Prafulla Karbari Para,Nabaratna Karbari Para, Moratila, Rohindra
Karbari Para and Subal Karbari Paraunder
Panchari upazila and talked with these families. On facilitation of
theTKS, the administration started to bring back the Tripura families
fromPanchari upazila to their respective villages of Matiranga upazila
in theevening of 6 August 2013.
Almost all the Chakma and
Marma families who took shelter atno man’s land of Indian territory
repatriated to their villages on 4 August2013. However, the families
whose houses were burned took shelter on localprimary schools.
Compensation:
It is reported that Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) provided25 kg of
rice, 2 kg of flattened rice and 250 gm of molasses to each familywhose
houses were burnt to ashes. BGB distributed 17 kg of rice, 1 kg of
salt,1 litre of soybean and 500 gm of sugar for each family. 10 kg of
rice, 1gamcha, 1 lungi and 1 pachra for each family were provided by
Taindong UnionCouncil. Army provided a total of 31 pieces of tent sheet
and 100 lungies.
Case filed:
A case was filed
against 175 people, including 30 named,with Matiranga police station in
this connection on 5 August 2013. Policearrested four settlers including
Md. Kamal Hossain for their allegedinvolvement in the attacks.
