Festival to promote indigenous culture held in Tripura

Agartala: Festivals are a great way of showcasing the cultural heritage of a region. Recently, a three-day long festival was organized in Tripura where people from different tribes put up an array of enthralling performances.
Dancing to folk music, the dancers from all over the Northeast attracted large crowds to the Umakanta Mini Stadium in Agartala.
Around 300 performers from the Northeast showcased their unique dance forms.
The three-day long tribal festival was held under the aegis of the Tribal research institute of the Tripura tribal welfare department with support from the Union Tribal Welfare Ministry.
The event aimed at creating awareness about the rich and diverse culture of the region, especially among the youth.
"This kind of festival helps a lot in bridging the gap between people and also helps in spreading peace, unity and brotherhood among different communities," said State Rural Development Minister Jitendra Chowdhury.
A fashion show was also organized in which models from different tribes displayed their traditional attires and ornaments.
"People from different parts of Tripura come here. We get to showcase our clothes, our culture to everyone. In order to preserve our traditional clothes and styles, we are raising awareness about them amongst the youth through this event," said Shayamalal Debbarma, fashion designer.
The Northeast boasts of a rich and varied culture. And events like this one not only bring together people on one platform but also help in spreading awareness about the region's traditions and culture.
